With this free application you can package ZIP archives into a JAR file – then from Jar Ajar’s interface you can install, launch, and re-launch programs from the JAR file. So to sum it up, Jar Ajar is a free Java-based self-extractor for ZIP files.

As mentioned above, Jar Ajar is a Java-based application. This means that you can use Jar Ajar on any operating system that supports Java. It also means that you need to have Java on your computer to be able to use Jar Ajar. To get Jar Ajar up and running on a Windows PC, you must download a 447KB JAR file, run it, and then click through the instructions presented by a setup wizard.

The panel on the left hand side of the application’s interface presents info on what this application can do – it can package your ZIP archive in a self-executable JAR file. The panel to the right features two tabs: Gottas and Extras. From the Gottas tab you can enter a welcome message, enter the name of the package, its version, pick the location of the ZIP file you want to package, and choose the logo file to be displayed in the package. From the Extras tab you can choose where to save the package, what application you want to run after extraction, if you want a Read Me file to be shown after extraction, and if you want the license to be shown during extraction.

Jar Ajar is a free application. Use it to conveniently package your ZIP archive in a self-executable JAR file.

Pros

Jar Ajar is Java-based, meaning it can run on multiple platforms. The interface is quite easy to use. With Jar Ajar you can package your ZIP archive in a self-executable JAR file. This is a free application.

Cons

None that I could think of.
